However, the test showed the presence of polycrystalline or calcite nails as well as pyridoxines which gave researchers a high degree of confidence that the nail was completely healthy with relatively high concentrations of collagen and collagenase. These findings are consistent with the results of a previous study by a Chinese researcher showing that high concentration of collagen may help with blood-oxygen synthesis and decrease swelling with inflammation.
But even more telling and fascinating is that, while collagenase has been well established in all forms of life, it seems to be highly expressed in humans and is most commonly found in the body, not in the skin. "When you look at skin, one of the advantages is that it is a kind of skin marker. The more you look at it, the more you know," explains Nell Miller, a scientist at Duke University Medical Center. Because collagen is produced naturally by the liver (i.e. it contains some of vitamin C and B2), many studies have seen that collagenase has an impact in the growth and development of normal skin, while collagen is known to form a wide range of specialised skin factors, from vitamin C to collagenase, and even vitamins A and C. In fact many of the specialised features of normal skin, such as wrinkles, are already found in normal people, and other skin factors include blood vessels (also known as fibroblasts).
