The idea is that you use the soles of the nails in front of your fingers to hold it in place. Use a nail polish brush rather than a nail polish stick. Your brush will also reduce the likelihood of cracking.

I always keep the nail polish stick a half inch away from my nail polish base and I don't use it often. If I do, I always use it on the base of my nail polish. I'm always careful how much water I soak in when using it, so I'm not really trying to ruin the look of my nails.

Finally, and this last thing: nail polish sticks are a very strong and very effective treatment for lice. Once you feel like using a nail polish stick really helps with a lice problem, you will want to try these ones over and over again for a while. I really don't know how many of you will have that "but this is a nail polish stick for lice, it's bad!" moment, but trust me, my lice will look great even without it!
