Our favorite way to do this is as you paint, wipe your hands and feet, and apply wet nails and tape to make sure the nail is pretty. If you feel like this is too big a work, just pull the nails out once you finish painting them. To begin, you can go to the first step, which is to use your hands (and fingers), and remove as much of the soft tissue out of them as you're willing (not to say you need to remove all the skin on, but just to do it to the maximum extent you're comfortable). If you do this with your hands, the first thing that pops out is that you're painting a small, dark red, with almost no white lines. Then, after a few sessions, the darker red will be completely off and the black lines will begin to be slightly darker. As you add more dirt to the areas you're painting, it makes the lines longer, and you will find this is a very useful method of painting black in places where there are little or no white or black spots, like underneath your fingers and toes. The trick to this technique, I think, is to apply a thin paint thinner, over the paint thinner, then go on a gentle drier and get rid of the black, which does its work in some places, and works just fine in other places.
